Artist:Minna Suoniemi

In the center of my artistic practice is the hazy borderline between private and public. What interests me is the very act of acting - or not acting to the camera. I like the idea of a failure, a failed attempt to act out a given role - and the recognition that the viewer experiences in relation to this act.
My work focuses on basic human emotions, relations between people and people’s actions determined by their role in a given situation and environment. I play with identification, blended with a shared sense of embarrassment. The crossing point of personal and collective experiences is in the center of my approach.
GAME BOYS (Video Installation, 2003) portrays 6 young men in a who-can-lastlongest
game trying to point a heavy gun as long as they can. The faces and bodies bend and twist in this duel where there are no winners.
